Orlen uncovers huge gas deposits. Aphrodite surprises with its size and potential
Orlen Upstream Norway has completed exploratory drilling at the Aphrodite field, revealing significantly larger recoverable oil and gas resources than initially estimated. The operator, Equinor, suggests that Aphrodite may contain between 77 and 180 million barrels of oil equivalent, with over 32 million barrels allocated to Orlen. This unconventional field, previously overlooked due to extraction uncertainties, has seen revised estimates thanks to recent technological advancements. Orlen acquired a 25% stake in Aphrodite in February 2026, initially estimating recoverable resources at around 50 million barrels. The company is considering connecting Aphrodite to existing infrastructure to expedite production and reduce costs, while also exploring potential undiscovered fields in the vicinity.
