"The Simpsons" bring Apu back after almost a decade

The return of Apu from "The Simpsons" has sparked discussions about representation and stereotypes of South Asians in media. Voiced by Indian actors Sunil Malhotra and Janina Gavankar, Apu's comeback follows years of criticism regarding his portrayal as a stereotype. The character was largely absent after the documentary "The Problem With Apu" highlighted the negative impact of his representation. While some see Apu as a caricature, others, like Amar Shah, relate to him personally. The show's handling of Apu's return is seen as a response to ongoing debates about racial representation, especially amid rising anti-Asian sentiment.
