Savings of EU citizens. Poland almost at the bottom of the ranking
According to PIE, Polish households have one of the lowest savings rates in the EU, at 9.5% of disposable income in Q1 2026. This is the third lowest after Greece and Romania. In contrast, savings rates in neighboring countries like the Czech Republic and Hungary exceed 19%. Despite this, Poland's savings rate has been steadily increasing, reaching its highest levels since 2020. Financial assets of Polish households amounted to 104.6% of GDP, with cash and current deposits making up 37%. Poland ranks third in the EU for cash holdings at 11.5% of GDP. The increase in savings is expected to facilitate investments in longer-term assets, such as investment funds and stocks, which currently represent only 6.2% of financial assets.
