Priest convicted of rape. "It costs me nothing to go to prison!"

Humberto Gama, an 87-year-old former priest, was sentenced to five years and six months in prison for rape, qualified fraud, and usurpation of functions. He denied all charges, claiming he did not know the victim and expressed indifference towards his imprisonment. Gama, who had previously been in preventive detention, stated he would appeal the decision. The case dates back to December 2021 when he was arrested for allegedly raping a 47-year-old woman while posing as a priest and exorcist, despite being removed from the Church in 1979. He was also ordered to pay €20,000 in damages to the victim.
