Eurozone countries have until Friday to propose candidates for Lagarde's succession
Eurozone countries have until Friday to propose candidates for the ECB presidency following Christine Lagarde's resignation announcement. The process for appointing her successor has officially begun. Eurogroup President Kyriakos Pierrakakis has requested member states to submit their nominations by November 6, 2026. The Eurogroup will review the candidates during their meeting next Monday. The European Council will appoint the new ECB executive board members based on recommendations from the EU Council, which are then voted on by eurozone member states. Potential candidates include Pablo Hernández de Cos and Klaas Knot.
