Package tax works: influx of super cheap packages from countries like China drops spectacularly
In the past three months, there has been a 65% decrease in cheap packages from countries like China due to the new EU package tax. This tax, introduced in July, has generated significant revenue, totaling 364 million euros, with 28 million euros collected weekly. The average value of goods shipped has nearly doubled, indicating a shift in consumer behavior. However, customs officials warn of potential fraud attempts as some may misdeclare package values to evade taxes. Business organizations express satisfaction with the results, urging the government to reinvest tax revenues into customs enforcement and technology to ensure fair competition.
