In a few weeks, nearly nine thousand fines were imposed on the M1 based on the new, smiling speed cameras.
In recent weeks, nearly 9,000 fines have been issued on the M1 motorway due to new smiling speed cameras. These devices display emojis to indicate whether drivers are adhering to speed limits. Since their implementation on October 6, a total of 8,859 fines have been levied, amounting to 488,360,000 HUF. The police noted that while they monitor the effectiveness of these cameras, they do not track tailgating or foreign-registered vehicles unless the country is part of the EUCARIS system. Additionally, average speed measurements were tested on the M6, revealing speeds up to 214 km/h, but current laws do not allow penalties based on these readings.
