Parents accused of torturing, killing and abandoning child to stand trial, three decades later

On November 2, 2020, Halima El Bakhti and Ahmed Touloub face trial for the abuse and death of their daughter in 1987. The couple abandoned her body by a highway while fleeing to Morocco with their other children. Halima is charged with severe acts of violence leading to death, while Ahmed is an accomplice. Their surviving children are plaintiffs in the case, alongside advocacy groups and the local municipality, which oversees the grave of the unnamed girl.
