Pope Francis Park will only open in 2027
The Lisbon City Council announced that the project for green spaces in Parque Tejo, also known as Parque Papa Francisco, will begin in 2027. The park covers 48 hectares and is part of a larger public works initiative. Councilor Joana Baptista addressed concerns raised by Councilor Carla Madeira regarding the area's current state, which was described as a 'desert'. Madeira highlighted that the area is built on a deactivated landfill, complicating the planting process. Baptista assured that the landfill does not pose a significant issue and emphasized the plan to create urban parks in the area.
