PCP wants to eliminate tuition fees in two years
The PCP parliamentary group proposed the elimination of all costs associated with public higher education in Portugal over a two-year phased process. The initiative, led by PCP Secretary-General Paulo Raimundo, aims to ensure access to higher education for all students, including those from countries with bilateral cooperation agreements with Portugal. The proposal includes abolishing tuition fees and related charges, with a 50% reduction in fees for the 2027/2028 academic year. The PCP criticizes the government's decision to unfreeze tuition fees, arguing it promotes elitization in education and undermines the state's responsibility for providing quality public education.
