PCP rejects "subterfuges to limit" demonstrations
The PCP has defended the right to protest as enshrined in the Constitution, opposing proposed legal changes that could restrict this right. Paula Santos, the parliamentary leader, criticized the current interpretation of the law as overly restrictive and emphasized that past protests have not caused issues. She urged the government to focus on pressing housing issues instead of limiting protest rights. Meanwhile, police dispersed protests in Lisbon and Porto, where demonstrators demanded changes to housing laws and protections against evictions. The protesters invoked their constitutional right to demonstrate against new rental laws and called for increased public housing.
