Pedro Duarte says he is available to withdraw the word "implacable"
Pedro Duarte, the Mayor of Porto, expressed willingness to retract the term "implacable" regarding the enforcement of laws against tent protests in Praça D. João I. He emphasized the importance of adhering to the law without exceptions, regardless of the cause being protested. Duarte acknowledged previous protests that did not face police intervention but distinguished them from the current situation, which he views as a challenge to legal authority. He highlighted the need for dialogue and reasonable actions in protests, citing a recent Communist Party demonstration as an example of proper communication with the city council. Following police actions against housing rights protests, which resulted in injuries and arrests, the Inspectorate-General of Internal Administration has initiated an investigation into the police response.
