At least 5,794 people fled attacks in Cabo Delgado in three weeks
In Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, over 5,794 individuals fled due to armed insurgent attacks between September 21 and October 13, according to the IOM. The displaced population includes 1,785 families from various districts, primarily Nangade, Macomia, and Muidumbe. The majority of those displaced are women and children, with urgent needs for food, shelter, and non-food items. The ongoing insurgency has resulted in over 6,600 deaths and 1.2 million displaced since 2017. Recent reports indicate a 10% increase in conflict incidents in the first half of 2026 compared to the previous year, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
