For the sake of justice, nationwide confinement obligation for poultry due to avian influenza
A nationwide confinement obligation for poultry has been implemented due to recent outbreaks of avian influenza. Secretary of State Erkens announced this measure following three outbreaks in a short period. The virus was detected in Lutjegast and Grootegast in Groningen, as well as in Middelie, Noord-Holland. Additionally, wild birds infected with the disease have been found in the Netherlands and other European countries. The confinement obligation was lifted in June when infections decreased, but the ministry had previously warned about the virus's unpredictability.
