Nearly 6,000 people fled attacks in three weeks

Between September 21 and October 13, 5,794 people fled from Cabo Delgado, Mozambique, due to armed insurgent attacks, according to the IOM. The displaced individuals, comprising 1,785 families, primarily came from districts like Nangade and Macomia. The majority sought refuge in Nangade, with urgent needs for food, shelter, and non-food items. The ongoing insurgency, which began in 2017, has resulted in over 6,600 deaths and 1.2 million displaced individuals. Recent reports indicate a 10% increase in conflict incidents in early 2026 compared to the previous year, exacerbating the humanitarian crisis in the region.
