PGR challenges parliament to review the law on demonstrations and avoids resorting to the Constitutional Court

The Attorney General of the Republic has urged the Assembly of the Republic to review the 1974 law regulating the right to protest, opting not to refer it to the Constitutional Court. Amadeu Guerra emphasized that legislative changes should not be reactive to specific events and expressed confidence that Parliament would consider the matter. He stated that, for now, he does not see a clear need to challenge the constitutionality of the law, which has faced scrutiny following recent protests in Porto and Lisbon regarding housing rights, which were dispersed by police force.
