First Polish nuclear power plant. What is happening today in Choczewo?

Groundworks for a nuclear power plant in Lubiatowo-Kopalino have begun, covering over 330 hectares. Budimex is conducting the earthworks under Bechtel's supervision, with plans to move up to 7 million cubic meters of soil. Preparatory works are expected to finish by mid-2024, while deeper excavations for reactor foundations will follow. The project aims to employ over 10,000 workers at peak construction, with infrastructure improvements costing around 5 billion PLN. Local residents express mixed feelings about the impact on tourism and the environment, while negotiations for a key contract with Westinghouse and Bechtel are ongoing, aiming for completion by 2026.
