First case in history. A patient infected with the Shamonda virus has died.

A patient in France has died from the Shamondy virus, marking the first recorded case in humans. Previously, this virus primarily affected livestock. The patient, who had severe immunosuppression, passed away in early October, and post-mortem tests confirmed the infection. French health authorities stated there is currently no threat to public health, as the virus was believed to be non-transmissible to humans. Experts suggest the patient may have contracted the virus in eastern France, where it circulated among animals earlier this year. The Shamondy virus, first identified in Nigeria in the 1960s, is primarily transmitted by insects and has recently been reported in several European countries.
