On October 28, Czechs commemorate the 108th anniversary of the founding of Czechoslovakia with ceremonies across the country. State officials, including President Petr Pavel and Prime Minister Andrej Babiš, participated in a memorial event at the National Monument on Vítkov Hill. The ceremony included laying wreaths, a moment of silence, and military honors. Pavel also appointed new generals, promoting Miroslav Hlaváč to army general and Tomáš Hůlka to general major. The president emphasized the responsibility that comes with the rank of general and urged them to provide honest advice to political leaders. Memorial events are taking place nationwide, with some government offices open to the public for the holiday.
