We are wasting European billions on sidewalks from nowhere to nowhere, says a devastating report from the Supreme Audit Office.
The Czech Supreme Audit Office reported that while Czech entities have learned to formally utilize EU funds, they often allocate these resources ineffectively. The report highlights that funds are directed towards projects that lack necessity or relevance over time. With over 1.3 trillion crowns expected from EU funds between 2021 and 2027, the audit emphasizes the need for efficient and meaningful use of these resources, especially in light of potential reductions in future funding. The office suggests focusing support on fewer strategic areas and enhancing recipient co-financing to ensure accountability and effectiveness. The new public finance management law, effective January 1, aims to improve the oversight of public funds by establishing clear, measurable goals for public administration.
