Poles need more exercise. The stakes are not just health.
Physical activity is increasingly viewed as an economic issue due to an aging population and rising healthcare costs. During a debate at the European Forum of New Ideas, experts discussed how to enhance physical activity among Poles, emphasizing the need for educational reforms and financial incentives. Current statistics show that Polish adults engage in only about 83 minutes of physical activity weekly, significantly below WHO recommendations. Barriers to exercise include time constraints and ingrained habits. The discussion highlighted the importance of early childhood physical education and workplace wellness programs to improve employee health and productivity. Participants agreed on the necessity of systemic actions, including potential tax incentives to encourage physical activity.
