Poland approves first fast-track renewable energy zones
Poland has launched its first fast-track zones for renewable energy projects, aiming to expedite the transition from coal to cleaner energy sources. The Wielkopolska regional assembly approved plans for 105.4 hectares across four municipalities, allowing simplified procedures for solar farm development. This initiative, part of the EU's Renewable Energy Directive, is expected to reduce project preparation times significantly. Environmental assessments will be streamlined, with authorities required to review projects within 45 days. Poland's energy sector is transitioning, with renewables growing from 14.7% in 2021 to 29.4% in 2025, while coal's share is projected to drop to 0-5% by 2040.
