Police are investigating a nursing home in the Svitavy region. There are many similar cases.

The police are investigating a facility in the former Schindler's Grove hotel in Svitavy, where over twenty seniors reside, due to suspicions of illegal business practices. The Pardubice region claims that the facility is providing unregistered social services, while the operator argues that they only offer accommodation and meals. Ombudsman representative Vít Alexandr Schorm estimates that there could be up to 150 illegal senior homes in the Czech Republic. The facility has faced criticism for poor living conditions, including burned blankets and unsanitary toilets. The operator, Leoš Mikulecký, insists he operates legally under a business license for accommodation and food. The local authority has urged him to register the facility, which he deems unfeasible due to financial constraints. Similar illegal facilities have been reported in other regions, raising concerns about the welfare of seniors in such establishments.
