Polish parliament votes to liberalise abortion access
Poland's parliament voted to liberalize abortion laws, currently among the strictest in the EU. Two bills were passed, one decriminalizing abortion assistance and the other reversing a 2020 court ruling banning abortions for severe fetal deformities. Despite support from Prime Minister Donald Tusk's government, the conservative president is likely to veto them. Protests erupted after the 2020 ruling, which drastically reduced legal abortions. Recent data shows a decline in abortions in public hospitals, with only 573 performed in the first half of 2026.
