Police to reassess part of untreated reports from 2024
The Dutch Minister of Justice, David van Weel, informed the Tweede Kamer that not all of the over 10,000 unresolved reports can be reassessed due to potential delays in new cases and legal proceedings. The police will review a portion of these unresolved reports from 2024, focusing on serious crimes like murder and sexual offenses, while a representative selection of other cases will also be made. Van Weel faced criticism for downplaying the number of unresolved reports, claiming that half were merely notifications, a statement corrected by the Court of Audit. Following a debate, he apologized to the Tweede Kamer for the misinformation and stated that the figures have now been harmonized among relevant authorities.
