Police seizes more than 20 modified scooters and fatbikes in the Diest region: "Anything above the allowed speed is life-threatening"

The Demerdal police zone has seized over 20 modified electric scooters and fatbikes in Diest and Scherpenheuvel-Zichem. Many of these vehicles exceeded legal speed limits, posing safety risks. Police chief Jan Konings noted an increase in youth using these vehicles, prompting stricter checks. Various methods to bypass speed restrictions were identified, including software adjustments and physical modifications. Riding modified vehicles carries legal risks and endangers both the rider and others. If a vehicle is found manipulated, it can be confiscated, with some potentially facing destruction if they cannot be restored to legal standards. Ongoing checks will continue to ensure safety for all road users.
