Poland has fewer and fewer inhabitants. GUS provided the latest data
In the first three quarters of 2026, Poland's population decreased by approximately 0.32%, with a notable decline in births and a negative natural increase. The number of live births registered was around 176,000, down by 6,000 from the previous year. The total population fell by about 121,000 in the first nine months, with a yearly decline of 165,000. The negative natural increase, attributed to an aging population, has been observed since 2013, with deaths exceeding births significantly. Migration did not compensate for this decline, as only a small number of people moved to Poland permanently compared to those leaving.
