Pordata: Portugal records the largest increase in house prices
Housing prices in Portugal rose by 41.5% from 2020 to 2025, the highest increase in the EU, and by 81.9% since 2010, the third highest. A significant portion of the population views housing as a priority issue, with many struggling to afford monthly costs. New construction has increased, but remains low compared to earlier decades. The perception that Portugal has a high rate of homeownership is challenged, as it ranks 9th in the Eurozone. The lack of social housing is noted, with only 1% of housing classified as social. Many young people are buying homes later than previous generations, and the idea that vacant properties could solve housing issues is deemed inaccurate due to various constraints.
