Port of Leixões receives 7.2 million euros to decarbonize docked ships
The Sustentável 2030 program has launched a €7.2 million initiative to install electric power supply systems for ships docked at the Port of Leixões. This investment aims to support the energy transition in the sector. Public co-financing can cover up to 85% of the total investment by the Administration of the Ports of Douro, Leixões, and Viana do Castelo (APDL). The new electronic systems will be implemented at the North and South container terminals and the passenger terminal at Doca 1 Norte. By providing shore power, this infrastructure will allow ships to operate with their engines off while docked, reducing greenhouse gas emissions and noise pollution in the surrounding area.
