Portugal will not present a candidate to succeed Lagarde at the ECB
Portugal has decided not to nominate a candidate to succeed Christine Lagarde as President of the European Central Bank, following her announcement to resign by February 2027. This decision comes as eurozone countries are required to submit their nominations by November 6, 2026. The process for appointing Lagarde's successor has officially begun after her letter to the European Council President. The Eurogroup will review the nominations during their upcoming meeting in Brussels, and the European Council will make the final decision based on recommendations from the EU Council.
