Portugal now has 171 vacancies in temporary centers for foreigners
Portugal has increased its temporary accommodation capacity for irregular migrants to 171 places, exceeding the European benchmark of 102. This expansion was announced by the Minister of Internal Administration, Luís Neves, during the inauguration of a new modular wing at the Temporary Accommodation Center in Santo António, Porto, which adds 80 beds. The total capacity now includes facilities in Lisbon, Porto, Faro, and Beja. Neves emphasized that this enhancement is crucial for addressing migration challenges and complying with the new European Migration and Asylum Pact. The investment of approximately one million euros aims to improve conditions for migrants, ensuring dignity and safety during legal procedures.
