Portugal has the most dissatisfied school directors
Portuguese school directors report the highest dissatisfaction with their salaries among educators in 44 countries, according to an OECD study. Only 12.7% express satisfaction with their pay, a decline from 27.2% in 2018. Despite salary discontent, 99% of directors are satisfied with their work, exceeding the OECD average. The report highlights increasing administrative burdens and stress among Portuguese directors, with 84% feeling overwhelmed compared to 61% globally. The Education Minister plans to introduce a new Director Statute to address these issues, promising salary increases and more management autonomy. The study also notes a lack of specific training for school leadership and identifies infrastructure and resource deficiencies as major obstacles to quality education.
