Pósfai on the police salary increase: It is not possible to address decades of neglect in 4-5 months, we have taken a step now

Hungarian Prime Minister Péter Magyar discussed a 15% salary increase for law enforcement workers during a parliamentary session. Pongó Géza from the Independent Police Trade Union argues that a minimum 50% raise is necessary to prevent staff turnover. Interior Minister Gábor Pósfai acknowledged the significant effort behind the 15% increase, which affects over 80,000 employees. He noted that the base salary had not changed since 2008, and the recent adjustments aim to address long-standing issues. The increase includes a 20% raise for lower salary levels and a 13% raise for higher positions. A preferred organizational allowance will also be introduced, targeting areas with staffing shortages, particularly in Budapest and Pest County. Pósfai accepted criticism from the workforce but emphasized that resolving decades of neglect cannot happen in just a few months.
