Pósfai: instead of the originally planned 80 billion, 39 billion goes to the water world championship
Hungary's Minister of Interior, Gábor Pósfai, announced significant budget cuts for four upcoming world championships, aiming to reduce costs from previous government allocations. The minister highlighted a drastic reduction for the swimming world championship, originally budgeted at over 80 billion HUF, now estimated at under 39 billion HUF. He mentioned that contracts from 2019 were renegotiated to save billions, while emphasizing that future events will only receive state support if they meet new criteria focusing on economic and social impacts. The minister also discussed the potential for hosting the Olympics, noting that while facilities exist, improvements in transportation and accommodation are necessary.
