Gábor Pósfai: From January, the annual one million forint home support for public service employees will be discontinued

Hungarian Interior Minister Gábor Pósfai announced the termination of the annual HUF 1 million housing support for public service employees starting January. He mentioned structural changes in police and disaster management, including renaming the latter back to fire service. The minister acknowledged the long-standing salary issues in law enforcement and emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach to address workforce shortages, with around 9,000 police officers currently missing nationwide. He also discussed plans to reduce unnecessary administrative burdens and the potential involvement of civilian patrols in certain tasks. Additionally, he highlighted ongoing investigations within the ministry, including eight reports filed, and the introduction of a new public safety package that will be presented to parliament soon.
