They built a house of straw and clay. Inside, it hides unexpectedly generous living space.
A seemingly ordinary house in Slovenia features unique construction with straw bales for walls, clay surfaces, and wooden interiors. Built on the site of an old homestead, it integrates natural materials into modern architecture while preserving the original layout and views. Architects from STUDIO MIKA designed the home to maintain its connection to the village and landscape, using straw for insulation and clay plaster for aesthetics. The interior is open-plan, with a central wooden block housing essential facilities, ensuring privacy without walls. Large windows enhance natural light and views, while rounded corners soften the structure's appearance, blending it into the environment. This house exemplifies a harmonious blend of traditional materials and contemporary living.
