Shot a migrant while on duty at the border. There is a court ruling
In November 2023, a Polish soldier accidentally shot a Syrian migrant near Topiło while attempting to fire a warning shot. The soldier tripped in the forest, causing the weapon to discharge. The migrant, aged 22, underwent surgery after being hospitalized. On October 21, 2026, the Military District Court in Warsaw acquitted the soldier, stating there was no evidence of negligence during his service. The Minister of National Defense, Władysław Kosiniak-Kamysz, emphasized that soldiers receive legal support and should not be left alone in difficult situations. The court noted that the weapon could have discharged due to the fall, even if properly secured.
