Prague honours Roma resistance fighters against Hitler
An exhibition in Prague highlights the contributions of over 1,400 Roma who resisted Nazi occupation during World War II. This event marks a significant recognition of Roma heroes, previously overshadowed by their victimization in the Holocaust narrative. Museum director Emil Scuka emphasized the importance of acknowledging Roma fighters, urging the community to educate future generations about their history. The exhibition features stories of 100 notable Roma partisans and soldiers, including Anton Facuna and Josef Serinek, whose legacies have been largely overlooked in historical accounts. Despite the ongoing challenges of Roma identity and representation in Czech society, this exhibition aims to reshape perceptions of Roma contributions during the war.
