Gas prices in the EU fell by 3.5% year-on-year, Portugal among the most expensive
Natural gas prices in the EU fell by 3.5% year-on-year in the first half of 2026, reaching the lowest level since 2022. Portugal's average price was 0.13 euros per kWh, among the highest in the EU, alongside France, and only below Sweden and the Netherlands. Adjusted for purchasing power, Portugal had the second-highest gas prices in the EU. The lowest prices were in Hungary, Croatia, and Slovakia. Meanwhile, electricity prices also decreased but remained significantly above pre-energy crisis levels, with the highest prices in Ireland and the lowest in Hungary, Malta, and Bulgaria.
