She survived a fall from the sky and a lynching in Haiti. The wild flight of the first Czech female pilot
Božena Laglerová, the first Czech female pilot, overcame a severe accident in 1911 to achieve her dream of flying. Despite her initial career as an opera singer being cut short by vocal issues, she pursued aviation, earning her pilot's license just months after her accident. Laglerová faced skepticism and prejudice in her home country but found success abroad, winning the first international aviation trophy for Czech lands. Her journey included a tumultuous tour in Latin America, where she faced both acclaim and danger. After returning to Europe, she attempted to join the military aviation but was denied. Laglerová later married and returned to teaching music, passing away in 1941. Her legacy was honored with a restored grave in Prague in 2024.
