First automobile in Portugal inspires children's book

The arrival of the first automobile in Portugal in 1895 inspired a children's book by Ana Maria Magalhães and Isabel Alçada, launched by the Santiago do Cacém municipality. Titled "Que grande novidade! O primeiro automóvel em Portugal," the book was presented at the Municipal Library Manuel da Fonseca. The authors conducted extensive research on the family of Count Jorge d’Avillez, who brought the car from Paris. They aimed to recreate the historical context and the family's reactions during the journey. The book includes humorous anecdotes, such as an incident involving a donkey. The work will be distributed to schools in the municipality, promoting reading and entrepreneurship among children.
