Trial started against Liberty in Geraardsbergen: 191 people scammed with fake insurances
The trial against the Liberty office in Geraardsbergen has begun, involving three defendants accused of defrauding 191 people out of 2.345 million euros through fake insurance policies. The main defendant allegedly used the funds to finance a lavish lifestyle, including luxury cars and yachts. The fraud was uncovered after a woman, who had taken out a loan for a business venture, discovered that the insurance policy she paid for was never actually secured. Prosecutors are seeking maximum sentences, while the defense argues for acquittal, claiming the reasonable time for the trial has been exceeded. A verdict is expected on December 11.
