Bus manufacturers call for help
The European Automobile Manufacturers Association (ACEA) urged the European Commission to protect the EU market from Chinese competition, highlighting the significant market share of Chinese electric buses. They reported that Chinese brands captured 28% of the EU's battery bus market in 2025, with a negative trade balance for the EU amounting to 1 billion euros last year. ACEA emphasized the need for public procurement to support local manufacturers rather than imports, warning that without protection, European suppliers could fail. The association noted that Chinese manufacturers benefit from structural advantages, including vertical integration and government support, allowing them to offer lower prices. The presence of Chinese buses is widespread across Europe, with notable sales in Italy and Spain, while some cities are beginning to favor European supply chains in public transport tenders.
