Pilot project with smaller gray waste containers in Maasmechelen will not go ahead for now

The pilot project by Limburg.net to introduce smaller waste containers in the Mariahof neighborhood of Maasmechelen has been put on hold due to legal concerns raised by the opposition. The initiative aimed to reduce residual waste by replacing the current 240-liter containers with 120-liter ones. Limburg.net will consult with the eight involved municipalities to determine if the project can proceed in a different format or be canceled altogether. The goal is to reduce waste to 90 kilograms per person by 2030, down from the current average of 123 kilograms in Limburg.
