PAN and Chega projects on animal welfare approved
On Wednesday, animal welfare-related bills proposed by PAN and Chega were approved in general terms by the Assembly of the Republic, while others were rejected. PAN's Inês de Sousa Real introduced two bills: one to create a registry of individuals convicted of animal abuse and another to criminalize zoophilia. Chega also proposed a national registry for animal abuse offenders. Jorge Pinto from Livre suggested a National Council for Animal Welfare, while Fabian Figueiredo from Bloco de Esquerda aimed to ban the sale of coercive training devices. JPP's bill to restrict live animal exports faced criticism from various parties. Some lawmakers expressed skepticism about the necessity of these proposals, while others supported them.
