Protests for the right to housing took to the streets in several cities across the country

This weekend, protests for housing rights took place across various cities in Portugal, organized by civic movements demanding government action to address the housing crisis. Thousands marched in Lisbon from Marquês de Pombal to Rossio, with significant participation from families and youth. The protests also included assemblies where participants voted to set up tents in public spaces, despite police warnings against overnight camping. The Acampada de Lisboa claimed around 25,000 attendees, calling for the reversal of new rental laws and increased public housing. Similar protests occurred in Porto and other cities, reflecting widespread discontent over rising living costs and housing insecurity.
