Mozambican Ombudsman points out lack of materials and indifference in hospitals

The Mozambican Ombudsman highlighted ongoing issues in the healthcare sector, including material shortages, work overload, and payment delays, while criticizing corruption and indifference towards patients. Isaque Chande presented the annual report, noting that public administration struggles affect healthcare workers' resilience. He emphasized that no structural difficulties justify corrupt practices or neglect of human suffering. In education, he acknowledged government efforts to address teachers' concerns but stressed that teaching quality is linked to working conditions. Chande condemned corruption as a major barrier to democratic governance and reported a 57.9% increase in responses to Justice Ombudsman requests. He also pointed out significant challenges in implementing the Right to Information Law, with many public institutions failing to comply with legal requirements for information access.
