Province of Limburg tackles water nuisance at the Bookmolen in Zonhoven: "Roosterbeek is now better equipped against weather extremes"
The renovation around the Bookmolen in Zonhoven is complete, featuring a controlled flood zone, an amphibian pool, and a fish passage to enhance the Roosterbeek's water system. This initiative aims to mitigate flooding risks during heavy rainfall by allowing up to 4,159 m³ of water to be temporarily stored. The new 148-meter fish passage enables fish to navigate a height difference of 1.83 meters, preserving both the historical mill and the original stream. The project, costing €230,000, involved collaboration between the province of Limburg, local authorities, and various funding sources, contributing to a broader strategy for the Roosterbeek.
