Survey: Funding of public media sharply divides government and opposition voters

The funding changes for Czech Television and Czech Radio have sharply divided government and opposition supporters. A recent survey shows that 75% of government voters support budget cuts after fee abolition, while 71% of opposition supporters oppose them. The government plans to reduce funding by approximately 1.4 billion CZK annually. There is also a split opinion on whether the reform aims to increase government influence over broadcasting. Following intense parliamentary discussions, the reform has become a symbol of the conflict between the government and opposition, with government voters increasingly defending it. However, the importance of the fee issue varies, with only a small percentage of opposition voters considering it crucial, viewing the reform as a threat to media independence.
