Breakthrough in the military Schengen case. Green light for the five-day rule

The EU is accelerating work on military mobility regulations, requiring member states to approve military transport within five days during peacetime. This is a significant reduction from current procedures, which can take up to 45 days. The 'military Schengen zone' project aims to eliminate legal and customs barriers for rapid troop movement. The European Commission emphasizes that efficient military mobility is crucial for community security. A compromise was reached on the approval timeframe, with member states needing four to five days for thorough checks, while the European Parliament advocated for two to three days. In emergencies, decisions will be made within six to twelve hours. The regulations will also extend to Ukraine and Moldova, with negotiations set to conclude by the end of 2026.
